Work hard, dream big

Team GB Elite Artistic Gymnast Ellie competes on four pieces of apparatus, Bars, Beam, Floor and Vault, of which floor & vault are her speciality pieces.

2015 was an amazing year for me as I gained GB’s first ever AA podium finish at a major Championships (Europeans) which also resulted in me winning BBC Young Sports Personality Of The Year.

Ellie’s breakthrough into senior gymnastics came at the 2015 European championships when she won bronze in the all-around and as a result was awarded BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year. In 2017 she broke two British records, the first was qualifying for all four finals at a major championship (Europeans) and then she became the first British gymnast to win an all-around gold medal, which she backed up with two silvers and a bronze medal at the same event.  In 2019, Ellie performed her vaults outstandingly at the World Athletics Championships, securing another Bronze medal.

Before gymnastics Becky studied ballet, tap and stage dance. Her passion for gymnastics began at a very young age, when she would dedicate time to training every Saturday morning. Her love of the sport quickly accelerated and her training quickly increased and she now dedicates 30 hours per week to gym and conditioning.

I feel so lucky to have fallen in love with a sport that’s changed my life forever.

Becky won her first British title when she was just twelve years old and competed in her first International when she was thirteen.  Her glittering career has included experiences at the Commonwealth Games, nine European Championships, seven World Championships and two Olympic Games. In 2019, Becky earned a spectacular silver medal on the uneven bars at the World Athletics Championships.

Recent updates – World Athletics Championships

Becky Downie blew the World Athletics Championships crowd away with her bars routine claiming a shiny Silver medal. Becky’s performance throughout the championship was flawless and her passionate, raw emotion upon receiving the medal represented her complete love for the sport.

Ellie Downie performed outstandingly during her two vaults at the Championships, winning her first individual medal and becoming Britain’s third woman to secure an individual medal. Ellie’s execution of some exceptionally difficult techniques, including the double twisting Yerchenko vault, earned her a Bronze medal.
